Directions
- 1Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat
- 2Cook the onion 4–5 minutes, until softened
- 3Add the beef and cook, breaking it apart, until it reaches 160°F
- 4Carefully drain excess fat
- 5Stir in the chili powder and cumin for 30 seconds
- 6Add the beans, tomatoes, water or broth, and salt
- 7Bring to a simmer and cook uncovered 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally
