KID-FRIENDLY SAFETY
Do not taste an unfamiliar food yet.
Find a trusted grown-up who knows your food needs.
Let the grown-up read the label and confirm the food.
RESOURCEFUL IN REAL LIFE
Use what fits your household. Individual medical and allergy plans always come first.
Pair one labeled shelf-stable food with fruit or vegetables—for example, a checked oat bar with an apple, or seed-butter packets with carrots. Keep it sealed and replace it before it expires.
Ask who stores medicine, how substitutes are informed, where safe food is kept, how surfaces are cleaned, and who follows the child's written emergency care plan.
“I have a medical food need. Can you check the ingredients and explain how this is prepared? Are the utensils, cooking surface, fryer, and serving area shared?” It is okay to choose a backup meal if the answer is unclear.
Bring sealed safe food, wipes, a clean utensil, the person's emergency medicine, and a copy of their care plan. Check medicine storage directions and expiration dates.
